Well. I’ve arrived. And as usual, it feels more like home than home does. I can’t say I’m super excited about the fact I’m on holiday. I suppose it’s because I don’t treat it like I’m on holiday. I feel as though being here in England is just an extension of my daily life, an extension where I’m actually active and motivated.
The flight landed earlier than scheduled and I was off and running, onto the Piccadilly line headed towards Central London. Everything was going smoothly.
I found the flat alright, and having phoned to let my host know I was arriving. I buzzed the doorbell and nothing, no answer. I stood outside for more than 5 minutes wondering if he was even home, as I didn’t get to speak with him on his mobile when I phoned. Thankfully, the weather was reasonable so I waited and finally he phoned and buzzed me in.
The flat is in a very convenient location, with nearest tube station being Earl’s Court. I’m hugely familiar with this area, and I like it a great deal.
Got in, met my host (who’s really charming), unpacked, had a shower, and immediately decided I was going to take an hour long nap. This is VERY unlike me as I like to go exploring straight away, but, I had absolutely no sleep on the plane and at this point, I had been awake for about 24 hours.
Woke up, and headed off to the Sainsbury’s in Cromwell Road. It’s a nice one, and very close. Not a lot of new products, it seems — at least, not in the product ranges *I* typically look at. I secured some breakfast items and headed back to the flat.
Out on the road again, I headed to the closest Carphone Warehouse to get a local sim card put in my phone. I now have a UK number! Whee!
Had some delightful chunky chips at GBK for lunch. Was heartbroken to find out they won’t have satay sauce for the chips til the end of the month! UGH!
I took the tube to Harrod’s and discovered they’re now selling Angelina products. (Cafe Angelina in Paris has the ultimate BEST hot chocolate EVER!!) This could prompt a purchase.
I went round the corner to Laduree and purchased some macarons. Not hugely fond of the Iced Mint one, however.
I have to remark, it’s lovely all the expensive cars one sees on the roads here in London. Parked next to Harrod’s was a turquoise Lamborghini with Italian flag racing stripes. Interesting!
I’ve also noticed skinny jeans are a huge trend here now, with EVERYONE, it seems. I am not a fan.
After some putzing around, I headed over to the South Bank to The London Studios to watch a taping of Alan Carr: Chatty Man.
What a fun taping! The audience was very involved and we were filmed, so maybe I made it on camera!
Alan seemed to really be having a blast with every guest. He had the Dragons (Peter Jones, Theo Paphitis and Deborah Meaden) from Dragons Den on, Paddy McGuinness, up and coming singer Conner Maynard, and some of the new Strictly Come Dancing contestants (Nicky Byrne, Jerry Hall, Louis Smith and Kimberley Walsh)
He dressed in drag at one point. He’s got really great legs!! And, his jeans were awfully snug! Goodness!
I arrived back to the flat fairly bushed.
Tomorrow’s a huge day, as it’s Buckingham Palace and a Parliament tour during the day and Jonathan Ross at night!
